2011 U15 and U16 Tournament Highlights
Mass Premier, Foxboro, Mass
U15 Boys
This excerpt was from the NERR Website from our Tournament last weekend in the New England Recruiting Report write up about players from the winning teams, it mentioned Tony Bell:
Other Players to Watch:
Tony Bell, Northeast Basketball Club – Has a great change of pace dribble and finishes on either side of the rim with ease. He sliced and diced through the defense on Sunday, finishing with 24 points and also sacrificed his body on defense, racking up a number of charges.
Team Mass Sturbridge May 7th
U15 Boys
The 15u Bombers started off their tournament in Sturbridge, MA strong crusing to a 27 point victory over Team Mass. The team finally started to play together and showed great signs of improvement. The team was led by a game high 14 points by Ryan Corl. Followed by Jimmy Lucido with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Austin Barlesau played a very strong game with 10 points and Tony Bell commanded the point guard position with 8 points and 6 assists.
The team took the floor for the second game of the day against a very good WCBC out of Windsor, CT. It was a back and forth game and the boys played very hard. Minor defensive mistakes and foul trouble were very costly late in the game to give WCBC the edge but the bombers continued to fight to the end. The team took the loss by 9 points and ended the weekend 1-1. Tony Bell lead the bombers with 12 points and 5 assists followed by Jimmy Lucido just missing a double double playing very strong in the paint. We showed great improvement as a team and hopefully this weekend can be signs to come in the future.
Providence Hoop Group April 30 - May 1
U16 Boys
The U16 Bombers ran into a couple tough opponents this past weekend in Providence, however continued to grow as a team and show improvement. In their first game, the Bombers played one of the stronger teams from New York in the New Heights. Shooting guard Steve Parr shot the ball extremely well finding his touch from all over the floor. The New Heights, who will compete for a national championship in June, were too strong an athletic for the Bombers and rolled to an easy victory. In the Bombers second game they played the elite team from Virginia. The Bombers came out slow and found themselves down 20 at half. The second half however was a different story as the boys from Northeast CT played the elite team even and ended up winning the second half. Once again Parr was on fire from 3 and Chiocski chipped in with aerobatic moves to the basket. At the end the Bombers found themselves with a 19 point loss. In NEBC's third match they competed against another team from CT, the Shooting Stars. The Bombers came out hot, playing defense and finding themselves with a 10 point lead early. Point guard Kyle Rodegher led the way driving by players and finishing at the rim. Forwards Patterson and Rivera, held down the paint and rebounded productively. As was the story this weekend, Parr was firing on all cylinders knocking down 4 three pointers. The bombers stuck together and got a nice win to end the weekend. NEBC will play next weekend in Sturbridge, MA at Team Mass's Mother's Day tournament.
April 16th and 17th Hall of Fame Tournament, Middletown, CT
Coach Moses' U15 Boys:
The U15 Bombers started off this weekend's tournament with a hard fought win. We lead by about 12 but mistakes let them back into the game. It came down to a final play with 2 seconds left with the game tied. Sean O' Gara was fouled with .2 seconds left on the clock and calmly hit the game winning foul shot to give the U15 team its first win of the season. In the second game of the day we didn't show up with the same intensity as the first game and it resulted in a loss.
We managed to advance out of our pool and had another game on Sunday against a very good team. I am very proud of my team they showed up with intensity and ready to play. Certain plays and some foul trouble down the stretch let the game slip away. Sean O' Gara and Hunter Hamlin lead our team this weekend averaging 8 points and 6 rebounds a game. Followed by Tony Bell with 7 points and 3 assists. I am very confident that the team will be ready to compete for the next tournament.
Coach Johnson's U16 Boys
The 16u Bombers had a very successful weekend in Middleton, CT leaving the tournament with a 2-1 record.
In their first game Nick Patterson came out on fire knocking down 3's and rebounding hard. Power forward Ibo Rivera came to life blocking shots, rebounding and finishing put backs around the rim. The big story was the ankle injury to pg Kyle Rodegher.
In the second game against an athletic Machine club the Bombers stood strong defensively and held the team under 40 points. Pg Kyle Rodegher, after taping up his ankle, ran through the club from Rocky Hill with ease. Burke, Chicoski and Parr also gave strong performances from the guard spot in the route.
The third game was Sunday morning and it seemed like the Bombers would never show up. Down 19 at half and with little hope rearing its head the Bombers went on a 15-2 run to cut the lead to 6. Led by Rivera, Patterson and Rodegher the Bombers defended and scored at will. Parr cut the lead to 1 with two free throws but the Bombers couldn't pull it out and lost by 6.
The Bombers saw vast improvement from the weekend before in Fairfield (1-2) and continue to gel as a group. Defensively they have found their identity and hope for great things in the future. The club has this weekend off and will continue their spring season in Providence April 30th at the Jam Fest.
